A Shared Responsibility for Every Child
To realize our vision of a world where children and young people are empowered to pursue their dreams and grow into confident leaders, their rights must be protected, respected, and upheld. This responsibility belongs to all of us , and it cannot be achieved in isolation.
Through our programs and partnerships, we champion child protection and work to strengthen systems that safeguard every child. Yet lasting change requires a collective effort. When communities, organizations, and institutions stand together, our impact multiplies, enabling stronger, more effective responses to child protection at the local, national, and global levels.
Driving Systemic Change
SSI recognizes that public opinion, cultural norms, and community systems can either enable or hinder child protection. By working within communities and influencing broader societal attitudes, SSI promotes sustainable change that protects children and breaks harmful cycles.
We partner with the media to strengthen awareness and responsible reporting on child protection issues, and engage traditional leaders through trainings and dialogue to support their vital role in safeguarding children within their communities.
Children's Act
As a child-focused organisation, our staff policies are aligned to the Botswana Children’s Act of 2009. We advocate for the full implementation of the Children’s Act by advocating for more funding to be diverted towards its implementation. Through our Child Protection Office we support child victims of abuse and ensure they have access to all essential services including:
Health services | Psychosocial support | Justice advocacy | Education
We also provide support to establish Child Protection Committees in many districts across Botswana, including Bobirwa, Southern, and Kgatleng districts and develop training manuals for those committees.
