YOUTH & CHILD EMPOWERMENT

Using a holistic, future-focused approach, Stepping Stones International designs responsive programmes that recognise each young person as an individual, not a statistic. By identifying their unique needs, strengths, and circumstances, we deliver tailored interventions that equip children and youth with practical skills, critical thinking abilities, and the confidence to make informed decisions and build independent, self-sufficient futures.
Working with young people aged 12–25, our programmes unlock pathways to economic mobility, digital and life skills development, and healthier lifestyles. In doing so, we actively disrupt cycles of poverty and intergenerational abuse, empowering the next generation to not only overcome barriers, but to redefine what’s possible for themselves and their communities.

Education
Our centre-based after-school program operates daily, serving youth aged 12–18. We provide a structured study period where participants receive academic support from specialised volunteer tutors while developing essential study skills and exam preparation strategies.
We assess each participant’s English literacy and reading level upon entry to determine the appropriate level of intervention. Using adapted literacy interventions from the University of Utah Reading Clinic, we strengthen reading proficiency and help participants improve their reading levels by up to two grades.
Skills for Life
Our Skills for Life program equips young people aged 12–18 with the confidence, resilience, and critical thinking skills needed to navigate life and make informed decisions. Through dynamic extracurricular activities, participants discover, refine, and develop their talents while building the self-belief to pursue their potential.
Economic Advancement & Leadership
Finding the Leader Within is a six-month leadership program funded by the FACET Foundation that equips youth aged 18–25 with the skills and confidence to secure employment, start a business, or return to school.
Participants develop leadership, career readiness, business and financial literacy, healthy lifestyle habits, and computer skills.
Upon completion, they take part in a three- to six-week job-shadowing placement with one of SSI’s company partners, gaining valuable real-world experience.
Psychosocial Support
Mental health and wellbeing are essential to building resilience. Many of our participants arrive having already overcome significant challenges, and we honour their journeys while helping them unlock the strength within.
Through solution-focused, trauma-informed individual and group sessions, we equip youth with coping and communication skills to heal from past experiences, build self-worth, and make healthier life choices.
