GRANNIES
Grandmothers are a respected pillar in society and often overlooked, yet collectively they have moved mountains and created social change towards child protection.

Grandmothers play a vital role in the lives of many SSI participants, often serving as their primary caregivers. Through the Grannies Tea Group, SSI strengthens this relationship by providing SASA! (Start, Awareness, Support, Action) training, a community mobilization approach used to prevent violence against women.

This initiative empowers grandmothers to identify and respond to cases of gender-based violence in their communities, equipping these respected leaders with the knowledge and tools to help break cycles of intergenerational violence affecting women and children.

Support OUR PROGRAMS

Grandmothers are the quiet backbone of our communities, often the first, and sometimes the only, caregivers our children rely on.

In addition to their pivotal role as caregivers, the grandmothers actively participate in income-generating activities through the Grannies Tea Group. They create handcrafted items and clothing, which are sold to generate proceeds that directly support the households they care for. These earnings help the grandmothers provide essential needs for the children under their care, including nutritious food, clothing, and school supplies.
